Benefits that work the way people actually live.
Visaala was founded by people who spent years inside the benefits and fintech industry and saw the same problem from the inside: the card-based model is fundamentally broken, and no one was fixing the right thing.
The problem
Corporate benefit cards carry spending controls — merchant category restrictions, per-transaction limits, category caps. These controls are necessary for policy enforcement, but they cause valid purchases to be declined at the point of sale.
Every wrong decline is a member insult. The employee did nothing wrong — they bought something their employer intended to cover. But the card said no. They feel embarrassed. They lose trust in the benefit. Over time, they stop trying to use it.
The insight
If the card is the problem, stop issuing one.
Let employees use the Visa or Mastercard already in their wallet — the one that never declines, earns their rewards, and lives in their Apple Pay. Enforce the benefit policy after the fact, using the transaction record, not before it at the point of sale. Reimburse through payroll. No insults. No friction. No abandoned benefits.
Where we come from
The Visaala team brings together experience across technology, fintech, and employee benefits — from companies that built products used by millions.
Engineering, product, and compliance experience from Google, Meta, Plaid, and Level
What we believe
Benefits that decline at checkout aren't benefits — they're friction. Every product decision starts with the question: does this make things better for the employee using their own card?
AI does the heavy lifting, but humans review what matters. We believe classification accuracy builds trust — and trust is what makes employees actually use their benefits.
Employees share their transaction data to get reimbursed — not to give their employer a window into their financial life. We act as a privacy layer, not a surveillance layer.
Where we are
Visaala is pre-launch and onboarding design partners now. We're building the product with a small cohort of companies who want to move fast and help shape what BYOC benefits look like in practice.
